Google Jamboard is simple, intuitive and easy to use. It is therefore a great way to get your people started – here’s how!
There cannot be many who have not yet experienced the power of working together with sticky-notes and templates on a large wall. How this group participation and engagement raises energy, boosts creativity, generates better insight and understanding. And builds ownership of the outcomes.
And yet, when it comes to utilising the online whiteboard equivalent, there is still a surprising reluctance. That despite its power and versatility.
In part this is understandable. Even though it takes only 15-30 minutes to learn how to fully benefit from such whiteboards, most of us don’t do it. As a result, first contact is often a struggle, and ‘the messenger’ is an easy target.
And the reason we don’t invest the learning and preparation time is that we have not yet really convinced ourselves of its value. Which is a sort of Catch-22. We don’t see its value, so we don’t invest, so it is sub-optimal, and we don’t see its value.
But what if there was a whiteboard much less powerful, much less versatile, that didn’t take time to learn. One that was very basic and intuitive – like a plain white wall and sticky notes. A simple whiteboard which people could use immediately, and thus be drawn into see the real potential and benefit.
Such a whiteboard is Google Jamboard.
True, it is a bit limited, but it is more than enough for people to get started. Furthermore, there is so little overhead in setting it up, that you can introduce it initially for very small tasks like energisers, or idea capture.
And when people find its limitations become an obstacle, then they will be sufficiently aware of the benefits that they will invest in the learning for something more advanced.
So, if your team is yet to fully embrace whiteboarding. And if you have not yet invested in training your people in one of the more advanced whiteboard solutions. Why not adopt Google Jamboard as your training wheels? Win people over through the experience. And then take it from there.
