Adding another monitor to your laptop is usually a matter of connecting the two via an HDMI connector. This is the cable you usually use to present on a projector.
By default, you will have the same image on both screens. And so, in order to use the second monitor as an independent screen, you will need to do what is referred to as ‘extending your desktop’.
If you are unfamiliar with how to do this, you may find Microsoft’s guidance on setting up dual monitors helpful.
