Multi-Channel Templates

Multi-channel templates - orb showing people walking or meeting with a map of the world in the background
Multi-Channel Involvement is about using alternative forms of input to the meeting. The standard input to a meeting tends to be verbal, and this is typically single-channel, inasmuch as only one person can be speaking at a time for everyone to receive the input. However written input, physical positioning, voting, etc. can be done simultaneously. Multi-channel means that multiple people can contribute all at the same time, and everybody has access to that input.

However, because it is simultaneous, multi-channel inputs need to be more structured so that people can see easily what goes with what. The best way to do this is by means of templates which can either be created as on-line documents which people can annotate electronically, or as large-scale wall-charts which people can annotate with pens, post-its and sticky dots.
Choice of template depends on what you are trying to achieve in the part of the meeting where you use it, and the Meeting Tool Selection chart can help you to select the most efficient template, and download a version which is right for the medium you are using in your meeting.
